We met each other through mutual friends so we knew a few things about each other. I liked him straight away, he was in a kinda weird situation with an ex and didn’t know what he wanted.
We’ve been talking every day for a month now,. We talk about literally everything and anything through text, we’ve been on zoom with our friends so there are 5 of us on video call doing quizzes etc.
I’m really not a fan of FaceTime or any kind of video call but I don’t feel as awkward when we’re with our friends as someone’s always making conversation. But when they all go off to bed, it’s just him and I left on FaceTime/zoom and I feel so ignorant going off straight away and I think he gets disappointed.
Last night we stayed on FaceTime for 2 hours after they went off. I hate the awkward silence and not knowing what to say so I started babbling on about myself, unnecessary things and just a load of rubbish just to fill the silence and to make things less awkward – he knows I don’t really like FaceTime but I wanted to try and make the effort.
I feel kinda stupid in a way and worried I’ll put him off by saying random things that he doesn’t really need to know, like where I went to get my tyres last week… he said he found it cute and really enjoyed seeing my face and talking for hours and appreciated the fact that I made an effort to go on and talk to him knowing that I’m not keen on it.
I just feel like when I’m put on the spot on FaceTime, I start talking about pointless things about myself as I don’t know what to say when we both go silent and I don’t want him thinking all I do is talk about myself as I know that can get boring. I really like him and want to make the effort with him, he will make conversation about himself as well but I feel like he’s mainly listening to me. What can I do to change this and make him talk more about himself?
TL:DR how to stop talking about myself to fill the awkward silence when we’re on FaceTime and how to get him to talk more about himself/things to ask him?
