I was in a relationship for 5 years from when I was 17 to 22, and we ended things nearly a year ago. Since then I have barely even pursued anyone because I’m too self conscious to feel like that would even be an option. When I got into my last relationship I was fit, I had a high self esteem, and was at least more sociable than I am now. Fast forward and I’m now quite overweight (working at that at the moment), feel like shit about myself, and am so ridiculously socially awkward.
I feel like using things like tinder is a lost cause because I’ll talk to someone but then chicken out because I always imagine they’ll be disappointed when we meet. I went on maybe two dates this past year and both of them ended as “just wanna be friends”. Which is fine, I know that i shouldn’t direct that solely at me but I can’t help but feel really unattractive and too awkward at this point. I just don’t really know what to do anymore. I don’t want to wait until I’m where I want to be with myself to start dating, because the process is just too lonely. But I also can’t get over the barrier of feeling gross or ugly to go out and try anything without feeling stupid for it.
