25M – Is being too friendly a turn off, or have I just not met the right people?

Hey 🙂

So just for some clarify, I don't get a lot of dates like I read about some people on here. I probably match with a few people a month but I'm quite a picky person; I'd rather take longer to find somebody who I really click with than lots of people I'm not sure about. And I probably go on a date every few months.

Now I get on much better with my friends who are girls than guys. I feel I'm more myself with my guy friends, however I don't really like talking about personal things with them, whereas I'm much more open and enjoy the conversation more with girls. A lot of my interests/likes and such would probably be more inline with them as well. Of all the dates I've been on, some have gone to multiple dates, a couple have become intimate, but all have never progressed into anything more than dating. I like to plan the dates, or alternatively suggest some ideas if they'd like some input as well and have no problem keeping a conversation, regardless how serious, silly, fun etc it is (assuming the conversation is a 2-way conversation, not just a Q&A and then I lose interest).

However, I feel I'm too friendly/nice of a person (be it with dating or just existing friends). I'm happy to always give without wanting anything in return, and always feel I'm being a burden if I need something off someone so I'm hesitant to ask. I often put others above myself as I really like seeing others happy (which in turn makes me happy), and while I'd say I'm confident and will happily make decisions for myself or others, I'll easily give in to other opinions or suggestions without much fight on my end.

Is this just something that needs to be worked on? And are those qualities something that you'd like in a friend but not necessarily something you'd want in a partner? I know there could be 100 other reasons for things never progressing but after reading many of these subreddits I feel this is what it comes down to.

Appreciate the advice 🙂
