I (25F) always download Tinder or Hinge or something of the like in a moment of spontaneity (usually while drinking wine) and end up panicking and deleting it the very second I start communicating with someone. I have gone through this cycle probably about 8 times over the years. I have never successfully kept talking to anyone to the point of meeting up, because I always end up calling it off (I tell the matches I can't do it anymore, I don't ghost) The weird thing is, I'm usually more than comfortable approaching people IRL, but something about online dating sends me into a state of absolute terror. Part of it is feeling like a total stranger may be plotting to murder me or steal my information, another part of me is just incredibly uncomfortable because so much of my attraction is based off of the vibe I feel from being face to face with that person. I understand you have to talk to get to the point of meeting someone in person so you can then feel out their "vibe," however communicating with someone with any underlying intention of intimacy without having been in their presence is incredibly anxiety inducing. I have pretty much come to terms with the fact that I may not ever end up in a relationship because of this, and honestly I am ok with that, I am more than happy being single, but I am curious if anyone else out there shares my feelings.
