So I stumble across Hinge, "The app designed to be deleted", and it's absolutely worthless. And I thought it was a cool format. Post a few text and pics responding to prompts, but the two bit wifi sucker doesn't even allow to message people. Even after matching! It's a worthless waste, but so is literally ever dating app.
I mean, think about, what is a dating app like Tinder, or OkCupid, or Match? It's you coming up with lines, conversation starters, and inviting visuals order to attract onlookers. How is that different from IRL dating? It's not. Literally the only thing dating apps do is increase the catalog of potential targets. You still have to do all the work. Which wouldn't be to bad if not for the fact they all have a "premium service" that you can pay for. What are you buying for $60? Why, the opportunity to do even more work on your own! Seriously! Usually the only thing they offer is 1. "Infinite likes", which is just allowing you keep working longer, 2. "See who liked you", allowing you to see who your opening lines worked on letting you judge for yourself who you want to invest your time into, and 3. "Get boosted and seen more", increasing the number of people that see your profile increasing the amount profiles you have to shift through to find a connection. All of these just increase the burden on you the users. You are literally more time, energy, and money on cyber dating than IRL dating and all you gain is the ability to do it on the toilet.
That's not even bringing up the fact that all those people you liked are also being liked by others and also liking others at random rates creating a web of communications that results in people trying to stitch together a relationship. And you know who that favors? Extroverts. Just like IRL dating.
In all honesty, is there any benefit to dating apps other than the "pickup and drop" flexibility. (And also the physical safety of not having to expose yourself to random people.) Even if you agree that dating apps are dumb, please try to find one good benefit of cyber dating.
