Matched w/ Guy who Works at a Company Where I Will be a Visiting Worker

In a fit of boredom and sadness about the end of a potential relationship, I felt like I needed a new slate.

I’m going to be a vising worker abroad (it was supposed to be this summer but due to covid has been postponed until 2021). So I decided to swipe in the city where I will do my future work visit and exchanged a few messages with a guy. Turns out, he works at the company I’m working at (same department but not my boss).

I wasn’t ready for this, I don’t think I want an online LDR before I’ve actually met someone. I’m not sure how to handle the situation. I kinda stopped responding a couple of days ago, but I think I’d like to be friendly about it and end the exchange in a friendly open way (“hey maybe we can catch up once I’m there, but that may not be for several more months”). Especially since I might run into him at the work place. I’ve been a bit of a mess this week and I think I acted a bit rashly.

Asking a close guy friend out over text while in Quarantine: Good Idea?

I [23F] have a friend [23M] who I’ve known for about half a year now. We’ve hung out a fair bit together both in groups and, on occasion, alone. We’ve even had dinners alone together at each others apartments, so I realize that asking him out for food or coffee won’t necessarily come across as me asking him out on a date.

Since quarantine started, we’ve gotten really close and we text almost everyday and have really long facetime calls several times a week. But now I feel like I can’t continue our friendship with this much intensity without knowing whether he feels the same way.

I’m admittedly a bit of a chicken, and I don’t have any relationship experience (some dating experience though mostly through dating apps), so I was thinking about asking him out via text (instead of facetime) making it explicit that I’m asking him for a date. I also figured that if he’s interested he’ll say yes either way, but that if he says no then it will be easier for him to say no not to my face. On the other hand, I won’t be able to guage whether he says yes hesitantly…Any thoughts or pieces of advice?
