Don’t always seek a resolution right away to the argument you’re having.

There’s this old saying that goes, “Don’t go to sleep mad,” meaning resolve whatever you’re going through with your loved one and don’t let resentment build up. I think a lot of people take this sentiment too seriously and follow that selfish response of wanting resolution blindly. Don’t push things too much. This usually leads to more hostility or plain confusion.

We’re human beings. We need time to process pain, grief, hostility, pettiness and even joy sometimes. Allow your loved ones to incubate and think about what’s happening. You might actually be surprised, they might take responsibility and agree with some of your points that you’re making.

But too much of the time we get caught up and want a resolution right away. Am I at fault, are you, what should we do? Sometimes it’s actually best to just take a moment or even a day and think about it. Be upfront that you need space. If your partner is getting frustrated and riled up, you can give them choices of how you can help but if they don’t want that try just giving them space.

Sometimes I can be irrational, sometimes my partner can be. That’s okay. We sometimes just need only a couple minutes to sit back and realize that. But if you push something, it can easily escalate the situation.

Everyone that’s currently quarantined together, please remember this and try to find the right balance between your space and your partners during this difficult time!!
