Around 2 years ago, I asked out my classmate who rejected me. We were cordial with each other afterwards, but we kept our distance. Then around a year ago, they texted me out of the blue and it was my idea to catch up over lunch. We had a good time, and agreed to be less distant with each other. They still weren’t interested in dating which I accepted.

However, throughout our friendship, there are some weird off-one comments they’ve made including “If you really liked me, you wouldn’t be on dating apps” , constantly asking me if I have a SO yet?. It honestly felt they were trying to keep tabs on me? It almost feels like they don’t want to be with me but don’t want me to be with me

However around February-March, our communication ramped up significantly and we were talking almost every week (as friends) – my classmate was initiating this

Then out of the blue, they wrote “How’s your SO?” even though they had no indication to think I had one (other than the fact I’m on dating apps) and even wrote “Don’t just write me off :P” and my reply was “I just get annoyed that you ask me this multiple times, but I am talking to someone” (that faded though and currently not dating)

They apologized and I accepted and since then we haven’t talked for over a month
I am really questionning myself on whether now would be a good opportunity to just call my classmate and just have a conversation where I can ask them why they said “Don’t just write me off” and “If you really liked me, you wouldn’t be on dating apps” etc. because unfortunately I still have feelings for them even though I kept my distance
I don’t know why I want to contact them so badly đ I’m wondering if their feelings changed for me but because I was seeing someone at the time maybe they backed off idk because their communication ramped up so much over the last few months
