So since the beginning of May I had been talking to this “great” guy, things were going well or so I thought. 3-4 hour conversations daily (initiated by both parties), ongoing communication outside of phone calls, we seemed to peak each others interest, we had the same hobbies, same taste in music, and planned to meet up when the pandemic stopped. We talked Sunday of last week and texted Monday of this week, then all of a sudden boom no more communication. I texted….no reply, I waited and he hasn’t called or texted since. I’ve been ghosted…… And I’m left with the question: why, what did I do?
Funny enough I was talking to a guy for a little over two weeks (at the same time), the conversation wasn’t as great but things begin to pick up when we began to discuss topics related to the recent happenings in the world. Things were okay…. When I told him (after being asked) I am a private individual who waits until relationships are exclusive to engage in anything sexual. He kindly said with my distance (I am in PA him NY), the riots occurring, the pandemic, our busy schedules (I am a JD student/teacher, him a new business owner of a local shop), etc he didn’t feel like he could nor wanted to put in the effort it takes to get to that point. He rather do that for someone more open and closer. I wasn’t hurt, I said I understood and I wished him the best.
That my friends took one text message, ONE. He didn’t just ghost, he didn’t just leave, nor did he leave a person wondering. This was mature, thoughtful, but most of all it didn’t take much effort on his part nor mine. Of course we cannot control people’s actions, how they feel about you, nor why they do what they do. Sadly, ghosting is apart of dating; but for all those whom have been ghosted without a reason the feeling usually is the same….. It sucks. You question yourself even if you are confident. So I ask if you are out dating, unless the person does something truly outlandish. Take the time to send one text saying why you no longer want to engage with the person. It may save the other person heartache.
