The guy (26M) I am (24F) dating (LD) teases me frequently about how short (152 cms) I am. I never considered it to be offensive because he somehow made it seem like it’s coming out of adoration. I told him that my height isn’t something I’m insecure about but I hinted to him that I’d rather he not do that because no one likes to be the butt of jokes. Yesterday he went overboard with this, telling I should have had growth promotants during my childhood and I did not like it. After putting up with so much annoyance I was so frustrated and I snapped. So I responded ‘you should have done that too so your dick would see some growth’. He got offended and replied ”I could say something similar (he’s here referring to my small breasts) but I didn’t. I wouldn’t cos I’m not you.”
It didn’t sit well with me so I said ”look dude, I know I am not an eyecatcher but you’ve been teasing me about my looks (my short messy hair and height) for so long and now that the joke’s on you, your male ego couldn’t accept it. I’d say take a joke or two and see how that feels, yeah?”
Also, he’d body-shame and judge a lot of people and I uncomfortably ignore them. Now that the ‘joke’ is on me I am getting pissed and realized how wrong it is to judge someone on their physical appearances and on the only culture such people have ever known. He’d also mansplain me and when I have something intellectual to add to the conversation, he steers away from it.
Anyway, he left me on read. I realized even though I felt body-shamed, body-shaming him back is not really the right thing to do. So I apologized to him. He still left me on read.
I deleted our chats, his number, all the media related to him from my phone and am pretending to be alright. But it is slowly sinking in how ugly our already complicated companionship had turned out to be. Obviously we are over, because I know we cannot undo what happened and I can never be with someone who believes he can joke on someone however much he wanted, but he can never take it when he is the targeted one. And to think I had put up with so much of pressure from him over not getting into a relationship ”just yet” even after dating for 10 months and him telling me ”I am sorry I’m unable to give you everything you deserve.” I was even fine waiting for his sorry ass.
Please just tell me if my anger is unjustified.
Tl;dr I feel like he body-shamed me and I think I body-shamed him back. I don’t know if my anger is justified or unreasonable. Please validate how I feel about all of this. Thank you.
