Mixed signals and major confusion

I also hope you like riddles because this one is either obvious like daylight to you or you end up confused just like me.

I met this girl X at work a few years ago while I was still with my ex-girlfriend and she just started dating her current boyfriend. We clicked very well due to our rather morbid and dark humour and started to hang out more. Our friendship always was a “Let’s not talk for 3-4 weeks at all and then do stuff again”-situation. With time that shifted towards just the two of us going for drinks or dinner but we only talk in person and the only texts are about the when and where.

At the time both our relationships were really not in a healthy spot and I think we both just enjoyed the attention we received from one another. Time progressed and while I ended my relationship last year, she moved in with her partner. The frequency of meeting each other dropped a bit but still good friends.

After my breakup friends mentioned that X gave me that “look” and some other oddities that are the common “signs”. I was never sure if those are truely signs or us just having a good time. The confusion really started when I was about to go to a festival (EDM) by myself and she surprisingly joined in (not her taste in music). Shortly before the festival she told me that her boyfriend is there as well, but only after I asked. We spent most of the day as the two of us and met up at the evening with her bf and he tried to play it cool, but I could feel the evil stare (understandable).

But this wasn’t the only thing that made me question her feelings for me. We continued to do things just as the two of us and these days it’s almost always dinner and/or drinks where she offers to pay a split of my bill because she is my “sougar mommy”. After a few drinks and laughing way too much the topics usually shift towards some “heavy talk” where she aknowledges her failing relationship and her struggle with breaking up (Needs new flat, works at same place like bf, mutual friends).

Still friendzone, right? I’d say yes if it wasn’t for stuff like:

  • “I actually never saw your bedroom. How about I bring a bottle of liquor and you give me a tour?”
  • Us going for a picnic in the evening with wine & chocolate and staying until it’s already way too dark, late and cold.
  • “Before you move the two of us need to spend some time again.” (After I said that I won’t have a goodbye party for when I move away)
  • Just inviting me over when her boyfriend isn’t at home. (No cheating involved, just a good talk)
  • Remembering all of the little, unimportant stories that I told (Trust me, I tell a lot of nonesense)
  • “If you leave I’m the only one left with my twisted sense of humour”
  • Texted me out of the blue that she dreamt something about me. (Keep in mind: We never text.)
  • And small stuff like playing with her hair, refreshing lip stick when we go out, struggling to keep eye contact but keeps the conversation going at the same time, also starts to “play” with things around her (candles, grass, you name it) and so on

For me it’s just really confusing and maybe your perspective can shed some light.

TL;DR: Been friends for a long time now and since I’m single again I think she started hitting on me even though she is in a relationship.
