I really don’t like to use dating apps to find guys to date. So far my experience has been that most, if not all, guys who I match with just want a hookup. I am not comfortable with that and I don’t think I ever will be. I don’t like the idea of it either. Call me a prude, but that’s how I feel about it. I almost had a success story from online dating on Tinder, but it left me heartbroken after four months of seeing the guy. Before the coronavirus, I couldn’t date because I had no time: I work fulltime and I go to law school at night. Plus my home situation doesn’t really allow guys over, for any reason. For perspective, I was raised by a single Mexican immigrant mother as an only child, and I live at home with my family still, and share a room with three people. It can be frustrating, but I’m okay with it since I have less expenses to worry about.
Is it even possible to date, like really date, without dating apps? Is it possible to find someone genuine, get to know them really, and have real conversations with them? I want to be able to find someone with similar interests, who isn’t looking for just a hookup. I want to find someone who I can rant to, call and text whenever for the most random things, and enjoy spending my time with them. Frankly, I want someone who I can actually use as my emergency contact person. That’s what I want, but I find that guys on these dating apps don’t.
Anyway, it’s a long night and this just comes up and bugs me at random times. Honestly I don’t think dating is going to work at all for me until I’m done with school and pass the bar. Which is, what, a little over two years away still? And that’s if I pass the bar on the first try.
Edit: I’m 27(f). Never had an official boyfriend before.
