Stop being insecure about your S0 having friendly conversations/close friendships.

I’m an overall shy person, but once I get to know someone or a group I get pretty extroverted and friendly. I personally take friendships very seriously, and I try really hard to make/maintain friends. I cant tell you how many times someone (usually girls) get upset that I’m talking in a friendly manner to their boyfriends. I treat everyone the same, so it’s not like I’m weirdly more friendly with people who have a boyfriend/girlfriend. But I’ve been pretty fired up about this because I recently made a friend about 6 months ago. Him and I seem to have similar personalities and hes probably the most open/friendly person I’ve ever met. He got a girlfriend about 2 months ago, and at a get together with about 10 people I met her. We talked for about an hour and had a good conversation. He came over a bit after and we talked for a while/caught up. Apparently she is pissed at me for “flirting with her boyfriend.” I’ve been dating my SO for 3 years, so I honestly find it offensive that someone would spread that anyways. STOP DOING THIS. Stop being insecure about people TALKING to your SO. Its super annoying and honestly kind of controlling. Rant over

Edit to add: a lot of you are commenting your personal experiences with blatant cheating/suspicious behavior. I’m so sorry! But also, that’s missing the point of this post. I’m not talking about if someone is consistently hitting up your SO or has shown persistent, provable behavior of being interested/being flirty. In many instances where I’ve been accused of being “flirty” have been in party settings or group settings where everyone is being friendly and talking, and a friend of mine pulls me aside saying someone’s pissed about “flirty behavior”. In my opinion this is ridiculous and incredibly insecure, and a problem that is personal between you and your SO. If you’re insecure to the point of being threatened if your SO is talking to someone else at a party or group setting in a friendly manner, it’s out of line to blame it on the person just simply having a friendly conversation with your person. Your SO is allowed to have other friends and talk to other people without you being all suspicious or annoyed/angry. Its controlling and selfish to confront someone for being nice to your SO, no matter what your past experiences are. It’s okay to be wary or have (understandable) insecurity issues after bad things have happened in the past. But keep it to yourself or set up boundaries with your SO if you’re threatened by a friendly conversation. That’s what I was referring to, to clear the air.
