This is probably gonna be a rant, or just a way to get this off of my mind. It’s focused on online dating, but my observation shows that it is not necessarily limited to that; as the online community is part of the real world after all.

I’ve been trying the online dating for a while, and I’ve noticed a trend. Keep in mind that this is from the perspective of a guy, I’m sure most of it, if not all, applies to a female perspective as well(we’ve all heard of guys sending d**k pics to random people).

What I see is people trying to get attention, whether it is by asking for followers on Instagram or whatever it’s called on Snapchat. Then we have people asking for money in exchange of photos or videos. It seems like we don’t even care about knowing each other. I know not everyone is gonna like everyone, both on a physical and a personality wise level, but still, it’s kinda crazy how shallow the whole situation is.

Is this what we’ve come to? No romance and just the physical and monitary aspects of life? As I said, it’s based on the online world, but the online world isn’t separate from the outside world. Now, you might say a specific group of people use the online platforms, or a specific group of people use a specific platform (cough, Tinder and hookups, cough), and you might be right about that. I’m just wondering what is happening? Are these superficial things our values now? Is this where we’ve reached as a society?
