Can we discuss the differences between never being in a relationship vs being single for a short amount of time

When people complain about singleness the usually the responses are pretty much the same. Work on yourself, it will come when you’re not looking etc.. however I feel that this is much harder to take and accept when you’ve never been in a relationship at all, and you have actually tried those suggestions.

The people who are single after dating have at least had the experience of being in a relationship. They don’t feel the mental burdens of wondering if they’re straight up undateable and looking at their future wondering if it will change. I was listening to an audiobook recently (can’t remember the name) and they mentioned how the thought of being forever alone to someone who’s dated is pretty silly. Like it’s not something that they hold a lot of truth to. But for someone who never has, it’s a glaring fear that seriously keeps them up at night, and I believe it’s because there’s like no previous data to go on that this isn’t true. (Didn’t explain this as well as I could have, but hopefully you get the point.)

The older you get (I’m only 23 now) and things stay the same it starts to hurt worse and worse.
And I feel like I end up setting myself up for disappointment with every date because I’m always hoping “Is this finally the right one?” But it never is.

Thoughts?
