Currently taking care of a sick baby (see: boyfriend) and it’s making me emotion

(Preface: Boyfriend is sick. No sure if it’s a stomach flu or what. I’m not worried about it being COVID bc he is not displaying the more worrisome/concerning symptoms of it.) He called me last night and asked for “his nurse” (because I’m in nursing school and he’s incredibly proud and supportive of it…it’s an ongoing joke we have), cough drops, and NyQuil. I, being the girlfriend I am, dropped everything and came over to take care of him. I’ve been waiting on him hand and foot bc I know he would do the same for me. I got him tons of Powerade (zero grape is his favorite). He’s not eating but he cannot keep anything down. It all goes out either orally or the other way:/ Earlier in the night, I put on the The Incredibles 2. He and I had a rousing discussion about the politics and parenting in the movie. He sounded fine. Breathing is normal. Hoping this will blow over soon.

Last night I got really emotional, seeing him in pain. He was writhing and was crying in the shower. Shivering too. It was hard to see someone you love so much in so much pain and not being able to just take it away. My mom used to always tell me that she wished she could just take away my pain when I went through a bad bout of depression. I never knew what she really meant or felt until last night. I began to cry a little bit and he said “[my nickname], be strong for me. You’ve already made me feel so much better”.
