Middle 20s male here, pretty introverted.
I've matched with only a handful of folks this entire year and out of that small group, only 3 wanted to carry a conversation. From one of the girls I learned something interesting: she had multiple messages in her inbox and seems to have the luxury of "picking and choosing" just who's gonna get a reply today.
I found it rather annoying the way she bragged about it nonchalantly. She's the type of girl who just replied "not much. You?" "Ok" "Oh" "Idk." "I'm not sure" and I wasn't asking flat yes/no questions either. It is so frustrating that this happens to me on almost all the girls who've spared me a chance "swiping right." Then after a few days of this boring conversation, you get ghosted!
Anyway, after this happens to you for about 5 years straight it really starts to cut a hole through your self confidence. Can't tell you how many hopeless hours I've read someone's entire profile, tried to find something unique and interesting to comment or ask about, and been ghosted because maybe I'm mediocre looking and not the next Brad Pitt.
What would you advise for someone having this sort of problem? I'm not down for hookups either I'm in it for the long haul (but I don't bring that up in the conversation either).
