I’m 18f, half Kenyan and half Armenian.
Quarantine made me thing about every guy I’ve dated and points of contention. Whenever I asked them if they could see us working out long-term (marriage or wtv) they’ve all said the same thing: “While you’re intelligent, attractive, etc. I can’t see myself marring you because of cultural differences and religion”. I know for many marriage is not just about two people but rather the merger of two families.
I’m not a religious person neither is my family. Yes I was baptized but I haven’t been to church since I was 10. The men I’ve dated weren’t religious either.
In terms of culture I have dated an armenian guy but his family refused to meet me because I wasn’t a “pure armenian”. Since then I started to feel that if my own so called people can’t accept me how could others?
I’m starting to get frustrated. It’s not like I’m shoving my culture down their throats. On the contrary, I assimilate. For example I usually flat iron my hair to appeal to European beauty standards because I know that most guys aren’t into curly hair… How the hell do I find someone who won’t find my cultural background overwhelming?
Ps. English isn’t my first language so forgive me if my thoughts aren’t expressed well enough
