I (24f) have a coworker(30m) that I’m interested in and I think he likes me. Short back story we are pretty close, we talk about a lot, play games in our cube, take breaks together alone, walk to our cars together (10 minute walk instead of taking the shuttle) have similar interests and have shared music/movie recs, plus when we were in the office (working from home due to corona) he would stare at me a lot and would come over to my side of the cube and be close for some reason or give me a high five.
This all sounds very nice but the issue is he reserved, especially with me, he comes off as uninterested vs social anxious though and I get thrown off about whether he likes me or not. We’ve been working together for months now and he’s still like this.
He doesn’t ask anything about me even though I ask him about himself and when I talk about myself he doesn’t have much to say though he confirms he’s heard what I’ve said in some nonverbal way, but other times he gets distracted in the middle of me talking. Yet we do all these things that say he does like me and he does remember details about me but will also forget whole conversations we had. Does anyone else have poor memory like this? Sometimes we have good convos that are long and cover substantial topics and others that are just fun and silly, but sometimes we burn through topics I think of because he has nothing to say. He always seems like he wants to be around me but isn’t always good at talking, which makes me feel self conscious. He’s a good guy (you’ll just have to trust me so I don’t ramble on) so I don’t think he’s uninterested what I’m saying, but I’m wondering if other social anxious people come off as aloof or uninterested. I wouldn’t say he’s hot and cold because he never is rude to me or ignores me, if I’m talking he’ll listen so it’s not a black and white situation. But if he likes me, why doesn’t he ask about me?
My second question concerns this, the last day of work before quarantine started, we had a long convo about how crazy this all was and how long it would last etc. I said that I was gonna miss him because he was fun to hang out with and he was a cool guy. He basically said nothing to that so I tried to recover saying “ I know you can’t reciprocate because your dead inside” as a joke. Then I said “we’ll that didn’t turn out like I hoped” meaning because he said nothing to me. Then I said “lol well alright see you after quarantine” and he said bye and we got in our cars. He then calls from his car to say he wanted to try this pizza place nearby and if I wanted to go. We had a good time but nothing more than friendship and it was about an hour long “date” and he was fairly reserved, like after he was done eating he was ready to leave I felt. So I’m wondering did he not enjoy himself or was he nervous? I’m sure it was not meant to be a date, but was it a pity invite because I told him that he matters to me in the parking lot?
We texted a little bit after the outing and he barely responded. But since then we’ve texted nearly every day in quarantine, but now 7 weeks in the texts are starting to taper off. I guess I have to wait until after quarantine is over to see what he’s like with me, but does anyone have any insight until then?
