My boss (technically my boss’s boss) has generally treated me a bit differently than he treats others, mostly likely because I’m the only woman other than this other older lady in our department of 40. I’m also the youngest (25) barring interns.
I think I tend to underestimate people’s interest in me but I have gotten the feeling that my boss thinks I’m attractive by the way I’ve noticed him checking me out.
Most of the time, he’s very professional. There was this one time when he came over to talk to me, took off his wedding ring, was smiling the whole time, looked like he was going to flip it like a coin, and then put it back on when another director came by to chat with me. He is not a fidgety person at all.
And the way he just smiled at me the whole time the other guy was chatting with me just showed that he..likes me as an employee?
I just thought it was odd behavior – I’d never seen him (or any other married woman/man) take off their wedding ring. I’ve always assumed that removing your wedding ring symbolizes removing your commitment to your spouse. Is this just overthinking?
This behavior really affected me because it’s something I would probably do too if I were married and wanted to nonverbally advertise my availability..
