I see a lot more "younger" people (20somethings and younger) frustrations and success stories about dating on here, but as a single guy well into their 30s, I'm curious to know what others around my age find to become both easier and harder about dating as you get older?
Here are a few of mine:
Easier:
- Having a better idea of what you want
- Knowing what you should expect from others
- Being a smarter date and able to tell when an option isn't going to work out
- Accepting rejection
- Recognizing red flags
- Accepting yourself as you are / not worrying about what others think
Harder:
- Meeting single people, in general
- If you've never been married and don't have children, you encounter less singles who are in similar positions
- Once you hit your mid-30s, you notice a sharp drop in dating app matches since many users even in their early 30s filter out anyone who is older than 34-years-old
- The single people you do encounter have often chosen to be content staying single
- You have more adult responsibilities than you did in your 20s, and therefore, less time to meet people without the help of an app and/or an after-work hobby/group
- You can't rely on your social circle as much to go out with and meet new people for various reasons (friends move away, friends are too busy with their own relationships, get married/engaged, have children, etc.)
And finally, maybe both a thing that makes dating both easier and harder…
- Regardless of age, today's dating culture only continues to present people with more options
