Forced myself to say goodbye

I'm super sad about this, but I had to finally cut things off. This isn't the age gap forum, so I'm skipping those details. I (M) have spent a long time with my girlfriend and have been gradually letting my guard down. I'm divorced with kids and I have to work multiple jobs to make alimony payments and make it. I'm not poor, but it just takes a lot of time. My gf has been a large part of my life and my attention, which has made work harder.

I've had long-term relationship with her (over a year), but honestly the last few months have been the best, Maybe it was the quarantine, but there seemed to be no running around and such and I felt like we were together. Over the year, there wasn't a lot of extra curricular activity, but enough that I was annoyed. There was always an excuse, but really it had to do with her being young and out partying.

Yesterday, some relatively innocent, but honestly not good stuff came up, It's ironic that it coincides with the reopening of bars. So, I just ended it.

I'm sad, heartbroken and just down. I know I'm a fool for trusting and letting my guard down. However, she did truly make me happy and didn't use me.

Anyway, this isn't necessarily a plea for advice. I just want to hear other people talk about a time that they made decisions that hurt in the short run, but were helpful in the long run.
