Hi Reddit,
My [21M] GF [21F] seems, to me anyway, to only just put enough effort into keeping me around, but I am not sure whether its me being needy or there is a genuine problem.
She goes through patches of giving me lots of attention, then she finds a new group of friends or a new game, and spends the entirety of her free time doing that, letting our communication fall to a minimum of taking 6+ hours to reply to a text, if at all, and things like that.
in the past, she would ring me, and expect me to be the "initiator" of topics. If I didn't ask questions, we would sit in silence, and I would hear a tapping sound through her phone, which I am sure is the sound of texting other people. This behaviour got on my nerves as she never inquired anything about me, even if I told her what I was up to prior, she wouldn't think to ask if I had a good time etc.
As a result, I just stopped telling her about my life to see if she actually did care. 2 weeks go by, and nothing, so I said to her that this is an issue that I am not happy about, it would make me feel better if she showed an interest in my life.
Now, if we text, I'll ask her how her day was etc, she will give a very vague answer, not revealing anything, just "it was good", or "good" etc. then in the same text ask how my day was, which is good, shes listened, but here is the (now) annoying part – she will take hours to read this text, and more often than not not reply, if she does, it is back to closed statements of "yeah", "sure", or "not very".
With these texts that take hours to reply to, something that I have noticed, but I am training myself to stop looking out for, is if i go onto messenger to see if she has replied to my msg half an hour later etc, the chances are she has been online since the text.
An issue going on for a few months also is she seems to conceal who she talks to, it doesn't matter who it is, and I am confident nothing bad is going on, but I feel sort of iced out of her life, and she won't let me in.
What are your thoughts?
