Good, lesser known places to meet potential dates?

I’m a bit exasperated with online dating so I’m going to focus on in person courtship for a while.

Clubs and bars would be the obvious choices but I’m not a huge drinker or dancer, plus I don’t have much money to burn at the moment (plus they won’t be open for another month or so).

I’m temporarily out of work, plus my line of work didn’t allow me to meet anybody anyway.

My friend groups aren’t the best for meeting people either.

I thought about just striking up convos with girls I saw around the beach and coffee shops and stuff but apparently a lot of girls get unsettled by it these days.

I’d love a way to be able to meet girls organically without it being so blatantly obvious that I’m trying to pick them up, so I can actually get a glimpse of their personality and their vibe before I decide if I want to try to pursue them.

If you guys suggest joining clubs – can you be specific as to which ones you recommend – because my interests aren’t really ones that I could see attracting many female members ?
