He (36,M) got mad that I (26,F) gave my number to the uber driver even though he told me "go for it!" We were not yet exclusive. Who is the reasonable one here?

I got in my uber to meet the guy on our third date. My uber driver told me that I looked brown and filipino, and the guy I was dating (36, M, white) had previously said that I'm pale. So I texted him to tell him that and we made jokes about how "if he thinks you're brown, he shouldn't be driving". Which is true. I am very pale skinned. We continued to text until the uber driver said I was beautiful, if I had a boyfriend, and asked for my number. I really wanted to say the guy I was dating was my bf but we weren't exclusive. I told him that the driver said i was beautiful and that he wanted my number to make him more interested, to which he texted "go for it". That signaled to me that he wasn't interested in me, and to not anger the uber driver who now knows where i live (very stupid, i know), i gave him my number. Then i texted, in despair, the guy i gave my number to the uber driver. since you can't read the tone through text messages, he thought I was rubbing it in his face. He said it was a "test" and that I had "failed it". He said he has wounds of an ex cheating on him, so he wants someone who is nice to him even when their ego is bruised. But we were not exclusive and he told me to go for it! Who is the reasonable one here? and i didn't want to give my number to the uber driver – i was just scared of him since i was in his car and I thought complying with him would increase my safety . The guy I dated then said I have no empathy and was mean to him.

EDIT: I wasn't trying to play games or test him. I wanted to make him jealousy by my market value that other guys were signaling to me, so that he would make me his gf. He was 36 years old and wanted to settle down with a serious relationship
