I try to go on fewer, more calculated dates than I used to… and as a result am usually going on first dates with someone I’d (best as one can tell) want to go on a 2nd date with. Problem is I’m so awkward when it comes to small talk and feel like that could be a common barrier between the other person wanting a 2nd date also.
Is there any good advice out there for either increasing quality of first dates, communicating that I’m just awkward and that we give it more than one shot, or internalizing that if the 1st date is just meh that it’s totally ok? I’ve obviously had everything from 2nd dates to a 2-year relationship by just being myself… so maybe I’m just venting that I was pretty excited to meet someone and am a little bummed that our coffee date seemed ok enough, we left on a no pressure “maybe we can get together later this week”, but she then unmatched me.
Sometimes it just feels like everything rides on the perfection of a 30 min coffee date so of I course I get rigid lol
