How do I let my guard down with him

I really like this guy and we had gone through a rough patch. Basically we used to click really well and both like each other a lotttt but had miscommunication and everything crumbled pretty quick

Well now he keeps trying to talk to me and he’s kinda guarded too but I think this is because I just can’t let my guard down. He made some mistakes and so did I but they were just little mistakes

I know if him and I could just talk things through things could really work because we both can’t really let each other go. But I can’t even have this conversation with him because I can’t even open up and talk when he comes up to me. I really like him and care but I just can’t show this emotion.
