How do I talk to people without it sounding like an interview?

I’ve noticed that whenever I talk to girls. It sounds like I’m interviewing them. I’ll ask them like what’re they up to or what they’re majoring in. Even with people I want to be friends with at times it just feels like the conversations feel more like interviews and becomes awkward
