I broke up with my boyfriend several months ago after being together for six/seven years. I haven't really dated much and am unsure fully on how to properly navigate the dating field (Don't really have anyone to speak to or seek advice on this).
I joined one of the dating sites and reached out to someone who was in the same Meetup groups as me. He seemed nice enough when we spoke before, but we hadn't spoken too, too much, especially with me being unable to attend the majority of the meetings due to university.
When we did speak on the dating site, he was dull, so dull. He would ask a question and I would answer, ask back, and respond to what he told me. His responses were short, he wouldn't respond to what I had said — he would just answer the questions matter-of-factly. I had figured that he was bored and not interested. We spoke two or three times in veey short bursts ("How are you?", "Doing well. I am doing x. Can't wait to do y. How are you doing?", "Good. Have soccer today."; this was really the extent of the dialogue).
I figured maybe falsely that if he didn't seem interested, I would just not reach back out as it wasn't really going anywhere (I should have said something earlier since we are in some of the same groups).
And then, came the flood of texts. Every day or few days, there would be some variation of "Hi", "How are you?", "Hello?", "You there?". It's been about three to four months and he is still messaging me, and I have still not responded. I am kind of freaked out. What do I say to this person, especially with us being in the same groups? And how do I politely say I am not interested in the future to nip any uncertainty in the bud? (And why does someone who shows almost zero interest in conversation continue to send these "hello" messages?).
