How do you move on?

(Throwaway, not that it matters…)

I’m not sure how to word this, I’m still working things out within myself so I’m sorry if this doesn’t make a lot of sense…

Without going into a bunch of history: my boyfriend and I broke up a few days ago… it’s been an okay relationship with a few big issues but over all he’s a fantastic guy. I truly loved being with him.

In person he was perfect, exactly the guy I would want, we could spend time together and never got bored and I always felt loved.

Unfortunately when we weren’t physically together issues came up, he doesn’t talk to me much and his friends have a much higher priority. I don’t think he’s doing it on purpose… it’s just who he is,

I broke it off. I just realized we needed different people, he needs a girl that’s much more confident and I need constant reassurance. It just wasn’t fair to either of us.

But he was such a great guy… he helped me figure out and talk about my past tramas, become a better person for myself. I feel so much more confident in myself (although I know not enough…) I know he felt similar and loved being with me, he didn’t want to break up, and currently I have no idea how he’s handling it.

And I just don’t know. I know it’s for the best, and I know it’s going to suck, but I can’t stop crying. I’m trying not to let myself think that I made a mistake, and trying to just give it time.

I’m not looking to date right now obviously, it will be a while before I get back into it… but how do you move on? How do you date this almost perfect match and say “oh I’ll find someone better next time” What if I don’t? How do I not compare every new person to him?

TLDR: how do you move on from a good relationship?
