How long after “talking” does the relationship become official?

I am 20 years old and never had a boyfriend/serious relationship before, only casual encounters. I have been talking to this guy every day for about 6 months, and I really like him. We met over the Christmas break, hung out about 5 times (like going on nice dates – no sex), then it was back to school and we go to universities far away from each other. We saw each other on our break, and now since the virus we are back in our hometown and have been seeing each other at least once a week. We have both mentioned we are not talking to other people. However, he has not brought up anything about taking this further or being official. I always figured the guy would bring it up because I hear often that when the girl does it she is “clingy” so I have just been waiting things out because I don’t want to scare him with the whole “what are we” talk. We still talk every day and everything is going great with no issues at all, so should I just bite the bullet, suck it up and ask where he sees this going? The problem is I am really stubborn and kind of agree that the guy should make things official. Any thoughts on this and what I should do, or if I should do anything at all??
