How should your partner support you when you’re emotionally conflicted?

To cut to the chase, this guy (28M) I (25F) have been seeing is conflicted between his future and our relationship. We initially started off as a casual, non-committal relationship, but now we're pretty much dating exclusively. I'm comfortable with how we are, and I'm not worried about putting labels which is actually something he's keen on avoiding despite how much he shows to be committed. Recently I found out he's planning on going back to school with a high chance of moving away. He asked what I'd do/feel if he moves away, and I told him I'd wish him well because I genuinely think it's a great idea that he wants to pursue what makes him happy.

But ever since then he's acting distant, pushing me away especially after he showers me with immense affection. He even told me I should go see other people if I wanted to, emphasizing that we're not in a relationship and he doesn't want one. He thinks it's selfish of him to be in a relationship now because it has to end at some point, and no matter what I tell him he's just constantly driving himself into deeper confusion. I'm not sure what I do to make him feel better other than giving him space. What would you like your partner to do if you're in this situation? Thanks in advance!

Tl;dr: the guy I'm seeing is trying to push me away because he's conflicted between his future and our relationship. What can I do to make him feel better?
