I know that this may sound like a pretty dumb question, but how does one know that they are in love and how do they know that they are truly loved? To begin with, I have always found a problem with love, both on the receiving and giving part. I think this started when my own mother tried to kill me. That event made lose all hope in pure love and, unfortunately, has convinced me that I may be unlovable. Ever since, I have always questioned whether someone could truly and wholeheartedly love me. I mean, if THE person who is supposed to unconditionally love me couldn’t, how could anyone else be able to? Furthermore, for some godly reason, I have been questioning whether I’M capable of love.
Lately, my boyfriend of 6 months told me that he loves me and it honestly gives me all kinds of mixed feelings. One is whether he really means it. Whether that’s actually possible. The other is whether what I feel towards him is love. I know that I really like him and truly care for him. Moreover, lately, every time he tell me that he loves me I find myself wanting to say it back. But, to be completely honest, I’m not sure if that’s because I love him or is it because that’s the appropriate response and what’s expected. In the past, I have told only one person, my ex, that I loved him, and to be truly honest, I’m not so sure I did. Don’t get me wrong, I did really liked him, but I’m not sure what I felt towards him was actual love. I feel guilty for doing that, and I don’t want to make the same mistake again. So my question is, how do I know? Does he love me? Do I love him?
