I (18/Male) have never had any romantic/sexual experiences ever. I grew up in an Indian household, where arranged marriages are the norm so I was never really interested in girls when I was a kid. I had 1 or 2 crushes but never really made an effort to talk to them or anything because I didn't really see a point. Now, I don't want to marry someone I know nothing about, that just sound like a horrible idea.
Also, the high school I went to had less than (much less than) a 100 people and we didn't have any sports teams, homecomings, proms, or field trips. Literally no one in our entire school (9th, 10th, 11th, 12th grade) ever dated or had relationships. I have no reference for what is normal or what people typically do.
Next year, I start college at a large public school and I have no idea how to date, especially at my age. In movies and tv shows, usually the protagonist dates a coworker, meets someone online or is setup with someone by a friend.
But at my age, all those things are kind of weird. Yeah, people go to class, but as soon as class ends, they return to their friend groups. I can't just walk up to a random stranger and be like, "Hey, wanna go out?" and from what I've heard, online dating is just for hook ups and sites like OkCupid typically consist of older people looking for partners their own age.
So what am I supposed to do? Am I supposed to be friends with someone before I ask them out? Can I ask the girl that I occasionally go to for help with classwork to a date? If I see a cute barista at Starbucks can I use the cliche, "Hey, when do you get off work" line? What's appropriate? How do you meet people?
Also, I heard that at parties people get drunk and hook up, but does anyone actually get into a relationship from that?
TLDR: I have literally no experience dating and I don't know how to meet/approach people.
