I can’t recommend “focus on your studies” anymore…

30F, took 2 years after high school to work and fund my education, took a 4 year undergraduate degree, and then a 2 year masters. Didn’t start working until 26. On paper I have everything I’d really need: a good stable job, good education, own a home, have a good car, fun hobbies, etc. Problem is that I spent the majority of my 20s focusing on my career instead of my relationships.

My last boyfriend was when I was 20. I liked him for all the wrong reasons, and he dumped me for his ex after 6 months. After that my friends and family told me: “don’t chase guys, focus on your education”. Which is exactly what I did. I had GREAT guys show me attention and would ask me out on dates, but I’d basically tell them I wasn’t interested in anything.

At 26 I felt like I would finally start dating, but then… nothing. I never had time to go out and meet guys. I also live in a small town of 15,000 people, most guys my age are dating or married to someone they met in their teens or early 20s. Just like that the last 4 years disappeared from me and now here I am at 30, not even close to any kind of relationship.

Some of you might say it’s never too late, but for me the clock is literally ticking. Even if I met a guy within the next few months, I feel like I’d have no relationship experience at all, and I would make mistakes people normally make in their early 20s. I feel like I’ve missed the boat with dating and that if the last 4 years can escape me so quickly, my early 30s will disappear even faster…

I’m tired of coming home to nobody. No one to share my life with and be happy with. I should be radiating with happiness with all the positive things in my life, but I honestly feel miserable and anxious every day. I can feel my social skills evaporating due to the pandemic.

I wish I had spent more time dating when I had the chance honestly…
