Whenever I (27F) date a guy I always seem to subconsciously play detective. For instance, by just looking at their social media posts I typically find whoever it is they may be dating based on comments a woman may leave on their page. As I reflect on The last situation I was in, I realize I put pieces together and found the girl’s instagram and became fixated on it. Her page was public so often times I’d look at it. Even finding myself comparing myself to her sometimes.
Another guy I dated for a month, same thing. based on a comment a woman left, I looked at her page and put “two and two together” and realized that was the other woman. It didn’t help when one day he was showing me a funny video on his phone and she popped up on the screen as “_____ the queen” lol. I immediately recognized the face from IG.
Here we have a more current situation. A guy I met back on December, we hooked up a few times and he has been pretty consistent with trying to see me and hang out. I don’t want to fall into the mental trap of being overly conscious of his post, scanning through comments. Last example, I texted him a week ago asking him what he was up to and can we see each other, he took awhile to respond and said he was working out. He posted a photo that night from his hike and I looked at it and a woman commented “I’m a great photographer” and guess what I did? You guessed it. Looked at her page LOL. I just want to STOP doing this. I’m fully aware that I’m not in an exclusive relationship and someone dating multiple people at a time is the norm I guess. But for me I think it just bothers me I guess because typically once I like someone I only date them even if there’s no established exclusivity. Any tips on what I can do to curve my curiosity. Or whatever this is you may call it. I recognize my problem I just need help on how to stop it.
