I have no clue what im doing on dating apps. Whats the etiquette? Why is it that i freeze up and get so weird in the chatt?

I (31m)don’t really go out much and im sort of new to this city so i use tinder to meet people. I get plenty of matches from cute girls most of them aren’t really my type. The ones i do find on there that are my type and im interested in once we get a chat going i turn into a complete dork and weirdo. Probably not in a good way? I just second guess everything im saying and feel like im leading the conversation every time. IRL i have ZERO issues talking to girls i can be funny and i never get shy. Its the complete opposite on dating apps. Does anyone else have this issue. Its just so weird for me bc i usually have no trouble steering the conversation and coming up with things to talk about but when theres a screen between us im a stuttering mess. Help me
