(30M) First time, so please be gentle.
I was in a relationship not long ago, if you could call it that. Lasted a little over 4 months until I ended things. I'm not into casual dating, or anything like that, and it was single for 4 years prior.
Anyway, I ended things because she was very controlling or insecure is more the word I should use. I didn't pick up on it until maybe a month in, and probably should have ended things sooner.
I wasn't allowed to have female friends, or talk to anyone of the opposite sex (strictly platonic). People I have known for years. Any mention of friends who I'd grown up with or around would lead to arguments or petty jealousy. She also had made a point of not having either male or female friends , and had said I was all she needed and I should feel the same way.
I would also have to mention in advance if I was doing anything or going anywhere (work meeting, fishing, etc) , and had to get permission first which I wasn't cool with. I treated her fairly well, I was very understanding. I was pretty firm about being around my friends whom I'm close with and did try to compromise.
I ended things myself, as I couldn't take it anymore and tried to end things on good terms. Things ended a little over a month ago, she still tries to get me back or attempt to make me jealous. She is actually now dating someone new and is quick to rub it in my face. That's probably the most frustrating part for me. I actually was starting to open up to her. Anyone ever had to deal with someone like this?
