I am 22 (F) and have dated maybe 5 people seriously. All have ended up in break ups (as happens). I decided to take a break from dating for the summer because of COVID and studying for the MCAT. A hookup of mine that I’ve always pined for was talking to me about relationships and he made it pretty clear he didn’t want anything more from me but to hook up and be friends. He said he was open to anything, but wasn’t going into things expecting a relationship. Although I’m off dating at the moment, it hurt me to know that this guy still didn’t consider me a viable candidate for dating. I completely understand there are other aspects to his opinion but honestly I’m just tired. I’m tired of not being enough for a guy to date, or being too much for someone. I’m tired of being stuck being the hookup rather than a girlfriend.
I want more, and I’m willing to wait for it. But omg am I exhausted. The amount of tears I’ve shed over these people who don’t actually care about me is astounding. I just want to be able to move on, love myself for me, and be absolutely happy being alone. Any advice is appreciated. Should I continue on this journey appreciating my single life or should I even attempt a casual “let’s see where this goes”hook up situation.
I know it’s dumb because I’m young it’s just I’m really burnt out and need some guidance on what direction by dating life should go from here. Should I just stay celibate for the next year or should I keep trying with these people who are “unsure what they want”?
