I (F20) have been dating my boyfriend (M22) for a little over 2 years now. We’ve been going through a rough patch for the past 2 months. There’s so many arguments and fights we’ve had but I’m going to talk about the recent one.
So he invited me to go hangout with him and his friends. I said sure and he said he’ll come pick me up in the morning.
We were on FaceTime last night and I kind of forgot how the topic came up. However he was just talking of how he had a hard life (bad parent divorce, dealt with legal stuff around 9-10yrs, later one of the parents passed away and was raised by grandparents) And that he knows much better than me, and that I’ve been “sheltered” my whole life hence I don’t know much about life… I told him I struggled as well, (immigration, learning on my own, had no one to guide me, family struggles etc..) I told him I may have had a full family that doesn’t mean I didn’t struggle. He kept putting me down, he refuses to acknowledge other people’s struggles only because he thinks his were worse. In a way I got offended being told that I’m ignorant about life and that I’ve somehow been sheltered and that I don’t go out as much as he does so this mean I don’t know anything. I started getting emotional and I told him I’m gonna go and hung up on him. I was crying myself to sleep pretty much.
He then texts right after saying “I won’t come pick you up to hang out tomorrow until you learn how to talk as an adult” in response I said “I’m tired of you always thinking no one comes close to you and that you’re better than everyone, how only you had a hard life and no one else did…and putting others struggles down cause you think yours were harder..” he hasn’t replied back and in the morning he never texted nor did he come to pick me up.
Considering all the other fights we’ve had and nothing changing between us, I’m finally starting to think I wanna break up. I’ve wanted to break up with him twice before just couldn’t do it cause it’s hard. I’ve also came to a realization that he has a superiority complex. There’s so much other stuff I just can’t fit everything in this.
Can anyone give me any advice. What do you think of this, was I in the wrong?
