Hey! Growing up and trying to date has been interesting for me to say the least. My question boils down to do other people really find other races attractive? How do you know? I obviously know that interracial couples exist so less about the literal do other races like one another but more like are those special exceptions or do they happen more often than we are led to believe? Around middle/high school I kinda noticed that I liked asians and white women but as a black man, it's been difficult navigating the dating world. My parents aren't particularly against the idea but comments, jokes, etc. they have said in the past make me not really comfortable asking advice from them.
It seems like everywhere I look asian parents/foreign countries dislike the thought of a black man dating in their family and black and white tensions in America is on full display right now. Family has talked to me (and other family members) before about dating white people and the potential for racial tensions weakening future families and hurting future children. I feel stuck. I don't know if I'm necessarily doing something wrong or not but it feels like I'm just gonna keep on aging without much difference in my dating life. I've had too many situations with girls that just make me feel like I'm on the wrong court. Tie all that in with how the girls I've tried dating seem to like taller, white men which is perfectly okay it's their preference but it kinda makes me just want to quit.
At 21, I haven't had a first kiss, girlfriend, or even held a girl's hand lol. I just had my first date last year and it sucked trying to culturally connect. I guess I'm really looking for advice and help on what to do next because it kinda seems like no one is really looking for me and it really eats me up inside. Sometimes it seems too impossible to really even try and I kinda break down for a day or two before returning to normal again. Thanks for any help and for reading this. I hope I wasn't too sad or mopey in this post. I'm generally a pretty happy person but ever since highschool I feel my depression has progressively escalated to this point. (P.S. I'm not suicidal or anything like that so I'm good there.)
