Is he being manipulative or is he just hurt?

So A guy I’ve been talking to invited me to the river to take pictures of birds (I’m a photographer and he knows I like to take pictures of animals) so I went. But since we are in the middle of a pandemic, and my grandma lives with me I wear a face mask whenever I leave the house because would feel horrible if I gave COVID to my grandma

So I arrive at the river and he sees I have a face mask on and you can tell he is not happy about it. We talk, take pictures and so on but you can tell he is just in a mood. So when we were leaving he tells me to watch a movie and let him know how I like it when I get home, so I do. I tell him about it, and he leaves me on read. I hear nothing for 3 days until I post a story on my Snapchat at work with my mask on and this was his reply

Him: Hey babe Cute The parts I saw anyway Not too fond of that mask

Me: Yeah I’m not too fond of them either, but it’s now a requirement at my job ?

H: And when your out w me apparently ?

M: Your not the reason why I had to wear a face mask They have me wear one whenever I leave the house

H: So If we get together again will you be wearing a mask? ? It’d be nice to actually see your face But I understand I guess

M: Did you think you were the reason why I was wearing a mask? I’m not sure how to answer that I hope I wouldn’t have to

H: I’m just sayin’ in the future if we were to go out and do something it would be nice to have access to your face ? But whatever works

Ever since he found out I really don’t like to hurt others feelings and will go out of my way to make sure they are ok, he’s been using lines like “I understand… I guesss. Whatever works”
