Is it mean to match with a friend on Tinder “as a joke”?

Do you think it is mean to intentionally match with a good friend on Tinder even though you’re not interested in them, but you know they really like you?

I have a friend from high school, we’ve known each other for 9 years. We’ve always had a fairly flirty relationship, but never anything serious. At the end of high school i finally asked her out. Didn’t work out for me. But we remain friends. We don’t talk that often, except for at work now, but when we do, its very easy.

I’ve always made an obvious effort to show her that I care deeply for her and don’t treat her like everyone else. I’ve been her valentine when she didn’t have one (twice), listened to her problems and i try to surprise her with the things she loves.

She recently referred me for a great job at her work that i ended up getting, and so ive been seeing and talking to her a lot more.

A month ago, i’m scrolling through Tinder and I see her profile come up. It took me a while to think about if i wanted to swipe right, and if i did, would she ever know? Would i want it all to finally come together through Tinder? Of course, whatever it takes. i swipe right.

A couple days ago, i get a match. Its her. My friend. My love. It’s finally happening. Im ecstatic.

She messaged me first to say hi, and we chatted for a bit but it was late. She mentioned she was using the app out of boredom and it was in her games folder. I told her to text me tomorrow if she wasnt playing with me, because i was taking this seriously.

She said “hahaha let it burn” and never did text me the next day. Leaving me to wonder…

Is this mean of her? As a friend, disregarding the feelings she obviously knows i have. Or, am I just upset because i’m heartbroken?
