Is OLD making us all shallow?

So I’m dating online for the first time in my life: COVID break up and it seems like meeting people in person is on hold at the moment since everything is shut down. In person I’m usually attracted pretty much exclusively to someone’s charm and personality. My past partners have all looked very physically different from each other, and while I appreciate some physical traits as beautiful like all of us do, I’ve never looked at a person and been attracted to them before talking.

Online dating has been a weird experience because for the first time I catch myself thinking things like “eh, this person is unemployed I’m gonna swipe left” or “this person is only 5’7 I’m gonna swipe left,” or even “yet another picture of a guy holding a fish? Boring. Swipe left.” If I met someone in real life who was 5’7 or unemployed but I felt chemistry and enjoyed talking to them, I would not necessarily care, but the fact that it’s all kind of spelled out in a profile like a resume and you don’t speak with the person before learning those things makes me focus on those aspects more.

Does anyone else feel that way? Since OLD is definitely the more common way to meet people at this point, are we all just creating a more shallow universe?

Discuss.
