This new girl recently started working at my job. She’s friends with a lot of my coworkers and had been working for our company for many years but left six months ago and came back when COVID hit because she got laid off from her other company.
Right away, I felt like we had some sort of connection. We’re super flirty, we make eachother laugh a whole lot, and we are constantly replying to each other’s stories on Instagram and making conversation. At our job we have little cubby’s where you can leave coworkers appreciation cards or give them praise for their hard work. I received two anonymous ones that were very flirty and the handwriting matches hers. I’m 95% sure of that.
Anyways here’s what I’m confused about: Yesterday, she saw me laughing and talking with another female coworker and immediately began acting weird, almost like she was jealous. Then, she comes in today saying she barely slept last night and was super tired so, of course, I asked why she couldn’t get to sleep. She then proceeded to tell me she had a guy over and that they’ve known eachother for years and aren’t rushing into anything but implied she was pursuing it. It stung a little bit to hear and to engage in a whole 5 minute conversation about him wasn’t too fun but I let it ride its course and then went back to work.
I’m just confused because I think the chemistry between us is so strong in every important way. I’m trying to figure out if she’s trying to make me jealous because she wants me to make a move or if she’s telling me that because she sensed my interest in her and wants me to know she’s off the market.
She’s a very wonderful, impressive human being and if she’s happy with the other guy then I can live with that. I’m just hesitant to give up without certainty. I would appreciate any advice on how to proceed
