just got home from a date after months of no contact …

so I was texting this girl for 2 months and after some corona measures were loosened by the goverment I asked her on a "date". the quotation marks stand for what I assumed was a date since I made it VERY obvious that I had romantic interest in her. I didnt outright say the word date or made suggestive comments that crossed the line but I there was lighthearted flirting what I assumed made my intentions clear. we even had some calls over video a few times. all good I thought.

I guess not lol. first I picked her up from her home with my car, then we drove 30min to the restaurant and ordered food. had a really nice time and spent 3 hours there. after that I suggested to go for a walk and get some coffee outside. from start to finish I slowly inched my way closer to her until I had to courage to hold her hand. she didnt do anything and held my hand for like 30sec but then she said:

"umm.. do you think this is a date? I am sorry, but I thought this was just a little trip as friends". she then later explained how she is already seeing someone and that she left that guy MINUTES before she entered my car… she mentioned how that guy didnt like that she was going to meet me but she assured him that it was just as friends.. which is weird since that clearly didnt come across in our text and why would you meet up with a guy who you flirt with, enter his car, drive with him 30min, eat nicely with him, get close to him and just to see him as friends while the guy you're dating is waiting at home.. wtf. I had NO IDEA that she was seeing someone else. I would have never asked her out if I did.

I was mind blown but I played it cool. one hell of an awkward coffee and ride back but I remained calm and friendly throughout. she wanted to stay friends but I refused since I already have enough friends and that I am too busy with my house to form new friendly connections. drove her home and said goodbye. she texted and thanked me for the nice evening and thats it.

ngl it felt really bad but going for the kill, making my intentions clear and standing my ground felt nice. even in such a weird situation. I guess she only wanted attention. I wonder what that guy she was seeing felt while she was spending time with me x)
