Just me or is there something terribly off about dating in our time?

It's as though everyone is too apathetic (or self involved?) to actually put effort into getting to know each other. Maybe our attention spans are too short? I get a strong impression that the activity of courting someone and searching for a partner isn't considered a high priority in my generation. It often leaves me with this painful feeling that there's something repulsive about me that I can't see in myself and keeps women from actually getting closer to me.

I'm not posting this for pity. I just want to know if everyone else finds it extraordinarily difficult to meet and connect with others?

To put things in perspective: I'm a 30 year old male. From what I gather through experiences and honest feedback, I can confidently say I'm above average looking and have a personality that people are drawn to. So I wonder all the time: what makes it so difficult to find someone to take an interest in me for longer than a date or two?
