Keeping the conversation going between dates

I (24F) went out with a guy (25M) earlier this week and we had a great time. We texted for a couple days before pretty consistently. The date itself was great and the feelings were mutual. He texted me saying he had a great time when I got home from the date at night, but since then our talking has fizzled a bit. The day after, we texted about having a second date next week and then our conversations have dropped.

I didn't hear from him when he had a busy day at work – he texted me the next morning telling me about it. I asked how his day was looking, and he said not bad and told me to have a good day. That confused me a bit – I didn't know how to take it – if I should've just laid off and let him go about his day, because he didn't keep the conversation going. I find myself wanting to text him the little things throughout my day, but I obviously don't want to be overbearing. We've texted a few times back and forth, but he hasn't prompted much conversation and I don't know if I should just leave it alone and let him plan our next date.
