I (28F) matched with this guy (32M) on a dating app, really good long conversations straight away and really hit it off. Constant texting for 3-4 weeks, but we live a bit of a distance from eachother (3h drive). We arrange to meet in a city sort of in between, although a much longer drive for me. We spend 10 h together having meals/chatting, walking around exploring etc. End up kissing by the end of it. Very intense first date overall.
Although the conversation was just as good as over text and definitely chemistry there, there were a few things on the date that made me doubtful and not sure if I should agree to a second:
- He talked about his exes being crazy (ex no1) and stupid (ex no2), had mentioned ex 1 over text previously as well. It wasn’t excessive but seemed a bit random.
- He talked about his experiences with his ex no 2 quite a bit to the point I wasn’t sure he’d had any solo experiences. Like all his holidays/concerts etc everything was with the ex. Given it was long term(8 years) I gave him a pass but having been in a 6,2 & 3 year relationships myself I have plenty of fun experiences outside of the relationships and without my ex that I can talk about, especially on a first date. Not sure if I’m being too harsh with this.
- He was very “only I can do what I do” about his job. He has his own business and said he had to “push out” his business partner because he was too interested in the details. Very confused by this statement and he wouldn’t explain further when I asked.
- Said he was one of the few “good” guys. This was in response to me saying I am a bit of a sceptic still when it comes to online dating.
- Told me to finish my drink since he had paid for it (I had stopped as I had to drive and it was getting late). I had insisted on and did pay for half of all the meals etc until this point. I was so taken back by the request/command I did finish it to not make things awkward. Ended up staying for a few more hours and got a coffee to make sure I was ok to drive.
- I decide to head back although he was trying to get a feel if I would be open to drive and stay at his jokingly. I said no.
- He asks I drive to his next weekend ignoring my suggestion for him to come closer to me this time.
Am I reading too much into this as overall he does seem like a nice laid back dude that is very open. We had great conversations and he was very charming, friendly and I did find him relatively attractive irl which hasn’t been the case with a lot of other first online dates.
As background I haven’t been doing online dating for long as I have been lucky and my previous three relationships have happened from offline connections so I guess I am trying to avoid being charmed by the idea of someone vs seeing the reality if that makes sense. Any feedback/opinions welcome.
