Hi everyone, I [23 M] matched about a month ago with a woman [21 F] on Bumble, and I think she's awesome in just about every way. Due to the pandemic, we started out by doing facetime calls a couple times a week through the Bumble app that went great, and we even did a virtual Netflix night once too. It all lead up to us finally doing a walk in the park the other day, and it went just as well as our calls…but right at the end after I only asked about when she was next free, she said something to the degree of: "yeah, I'm not sure if I'm looking for a relationship right now unless it just happens, but yeah we can totally go get food or something."
While I may be 23, I have the dating experience of a 12-year-old, but even I know that this was likely just a nice way for her to say she's not interested…maybe I missed some obvious signs along the way due to my inexperience, but I wasn't expecting her to say this after everything – it's a bummer for me, but I guess it is what it is. However, what's weird is that she 100% seems like she wants to be friends; to the point that earlier in that last "date" she even started mentioning potentially introducing me to her friend group when they get together and talking about all the places she could show me once things start opening up again (I just moved to the area before the pandemic for work, so I don't really know many people here or what's around).
Now I just feel conflicted – I do need friends in this new area (especially in the middle of a pandemic) and she seems like she genuinely wants to continue to hang out, but I'm so hesitant to text her again in fear that anything I suggest would sound too much like a "date" and make her uncomfortable since she obviously knows I'm attracted to her. So do you think it would be weird to keep asking to hang out now? Has anyone been able to maintain an actual friendship with someone like this from a dating app despite not actually getting around to dating them?
Thanks.
